It’s that time of the year again: Black Friday deals are everywhere, screaming from every notification. We’re here to make sure you don’t drop reckless.
Let’s be honest for a second.
I opened my purchase history, scrolled back five years, and tried to find a single “big” item I actually bought on Black Friday. Zero. Nada. Not even that viral Dyson Airwrap everyone lost their minds over 2022.
The truth? Every year, I tell myself “This is the year”, I add 47 tabs, wake up early in the morning for the drops… and my dream pieces are either sold out in 0.3 seconds or – plot twist – never discounted at all. Instead, my cart ends up filled with 12 backup setting sprays, 8 lip oils I already own in the same shade, and enough sheet masks to mummify the entire editorial team.

Black Friday is the ultimate psychological operation.
The countdown timers, the “95% claimed” bars, the limited-stock pop-ups, EVERYTHING is engineered to put your brain in scarcity mode. When the thing you actually wanted vanishes, the dopamine demon whispers: “Just buy something… anything… you’re already here.” Next thing you know, you’ve spent $350 to save $60 and own a neon eyeliner you’ll never wear outside of Halloween…
But here’s the thing: when used strategically, Black Friday is still one of the best times to tackle Christmas gifting (or treat yourself without the usual guilt). You simply need a plan, a list, and the iron willpower to close the tab when it’s not on the list.
